What PhotoToKB is

A set of free image tools that run entirely in your own web browser: compressing a photo to a file-size limit you choose, resizing to exact pixel dimensions, cropping and rotating, converting between formats such as HEIC, WebP, PNG and JPG, and applying the size presets published for documents like passport photos and signatures. There is no account, no payment, no upload and no support contract. Everything is offered as-is, with no guarantees.

Your photos stay yours

You keep every right you already had in the files you open here. Because the tools never receive them, no licence to use them is asked for or granted — see the privacy policy for the mechanics.

Check the result before you rely on it

Each tool aims to produce what you asked for and reports what it achieved: the size in KB, the pixel dimensions, the output format. Even so, the requirements of the form you are filling in are the only thing that counts. Portals demand exact pixel dimensions, a minimum size as well as a maximum, a particular file format, a plain background, or a scan rather than a photograph. Read your instructions and open the downloaded file before you submit it.

Keep your original. A compressed, resized, cropped or converted copy is a new file, and the detail removed to make it fit cannot be recovered from it.

Size presets are a starting point, not official advice

The passport and signature presets carry the numbers the relevant authority or exam body published at the time they were added — pixels, format and a KB range. Those requirements change, differ between application routes, and are sometimes described differently on the form than in the guidance notes. PhotoToKB is not affiliated with any government, embassy, exam board or portal, and nothing here is legal or immigration advice. Treat a preset as a convenience and verify it against your own instructions; if one is out of date, tell me and it will be corrected.

Acceptable use

• Do not use the tools to process images you have no right to use.
• Do not use them to produce images intended to deceive — for example, altering an identity document, or editing a photograph so that it misrepresents who is in it.
• Do not attempt to disrupt the site or the people using it, or to pass it off as your own service.

No warranty

PhotoToKB is provided without warranties of any kind, express or implied. Browsers differ and image formats are inconsistent: which files can be decoded depends on the browser you are using, so formats such as HEIC, TIFF and JPEG XL open in Safari on iPhone and Mac but not in Chrome or Firefox. Animated files come out as a single still frame. There is no promise that the site will be available, error-free, or that any particular image can be squeezed under any particular limit at any particular size.

Limits of responsibility

To the fullest extent the law allows, I am not liable for any loss that follows from using this site — including a rejected application, a missed deadline, a corrupted or overwritten file, a photo that turned out worse than you hoped, or a preset that did not match what your form wanted. The tools are free and run on your machine, and deciding whether a file is fit to submit is up to you.

Availability and changes

Tools, presets and conversions may be added, changed or removed, and the site may be taken offline, at any time and without notice. These terms may also change; the date at the top shows when they last did, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the new version.

The site itself

The PhotoToKB name, design and source code belong to their author. You are welcome to use the tools as much as you like, for personal or commercial purposes, but not to copy the site and republish it as your own.
